Start Soft Washing

Delux® has a complete line of soft wash products to help you start soft washing. Soft washing has a high potential for profit with a relatively low entry cost. It can be a great way to start a business or an add on for an existing pressure washing business.

What is Soft Washing?

Soft washing is a cleaning process that uses chemical resistant pumps to apply sodium hypochlorite at low pressure to clean organic stains. Soft washing is the best method for removing moss, lichen, algae, mold, and mildew for soft surfaces such as rooftops, siding, stucco, and dryvit. Pressure washers can damage soft surfaces and void their warranties.

What will you need to start soft washing?

The first thing you will need to start soft washing is a soft wash system. At its most rudimentary level, a soft wash system consists of a tank for holding chemical, a pump and hoses for moving chemical, a trigger gun for controlling flow, and a nozzle to guide the spray. Delux makes several great pre-built systems such as the Bronco, the Maverick or the Stallion, but a kit can be a great cost efficient way to get started soft washing.

What comes with a Delux® Soft Wash Kit?

• • Four PVC hose barbs

• • Three hose clamps

• • One JA-8000 trigger gun

• • One 24 inch PVC Wand

• • Steel quick couplers

• • Four nozzles

• • 162 feet of PVC hose

• • One mesh screen filter

• • Thread seal tape

• • One 12v pump.

You will also need a 12v deep cycle marine grade battery to power the system, and a tank to hold your sodium hypochlorite solution.

You can enhance your soft wash system with some additional items that can make it easier to get started soft washing.

• • A J-Rod nozzle holder is a device that holds four of your most used nozzles for convenient switching.

• • An Accumulator tank allows you to maintain pressure in your system without placing demand on your diaphragm pump. This reduces the number of times that the pump must cycle, and creates a smooth quiet flow. The pump stays cooler and uses less power from the battery. The leads to longer work periods and increases the lifespan of the pump.

• • A Titan Stainless Steel Hose reel with PVC drum. The Titan 5418 hose reel is constructed from type 304 stainless steel for maximum durability. It is designed to stand up to corrosive chemicals used for soft washing like sodium hypochlorite. Hook up the Titan T5418 to a soft wash kit with 2 PVC hose barbs (BHB-1212), and some chemical resistant hose.

• • A battery box. Keep your battery dry and protected.

Before you start soft washing, you’ll need to acquire some chemical. You can find Sodium hypochlorite (12%) at most pool supply shops, but it is not all you will need. While sodium hypochlorite is the primary ingredient is most soft wash mixes, it can be made much better with additional ingredients. Fresh Wash offers four ways to help increase your cleaning power. First, it breaks the surface tension on the cleaning surface. It also increases the hang time on horizontal surfaces. This allows the sodium hypochlorite to penetrate deeper into stains. This increased dwell and penetration allows for bleaching reaction to happen at a lower overall bleach concentration. It also includes rinsing agents that help fight hard water spotting, and features a masking / cover scent. For even more cling and penetration, Delux® offers EZ-Cling Super Concentrated Roof Cleaner additive. You can use both products in conjunction without diluting a sodium hypochlorite solution.
